Last night I attended my third Art Basel kick off party at the MoCA NoMi (fancy, I know, it’s the Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami). To put it plainly, I’d say the party the prior two years was superior, better DJ, better food and I think the party itself was longer, but most importantly, the ticket was cheaper.
Saturday evening I got lucky. I had a date full of great conversation and so much laughter my face hurt. They were frugal, witty, smart and total babes. Did I mention there was two of them? What can I say, I’m lucky I suppose.
My Groupon happy, former roommate and I had another one of roommates fly in for the weekend. Adrienne came across a deal for Dapur in Fort Lauderdale, an Asian tapas restaurant and lounge. The deal was meant for four people and for $55 included six small plates and a drink for each person.
Our six choices and their original prices were as follows, Korean Style Short Ribs at $10, Bang Bang Scallops at $16, Steam Veggie Dumplings at $7, Rock Shrimp at $14, a Hot Tower at $16 and Beef Tataki at $16. These alone would’ve totaled $79.
We only had 3 of the 4 glasses of house wine included in the deal. At $8 a piece, add another $24, which brings the total to $103.
We added 3 bowls of soup totaling and a delicious dessert, tacking on another $27, bringing the grand total to $130. The $55 deal accounted for $103 of the $130. Our actual total (before tip) was only $82. We saved $48 or 37%.
When was the last time you went on a hot date and spent under a hundred?
I bought a hot American Apparel dress, full price. I had to. So, needless to say, you won’t see that one in particular on here. However, in a couple days you will see my Cyber Monday AA purchase, as soon as it arrives!
Anyways, I may or may not have small obsession with American Apparel. Below is a small collection of a selection of my bodysuits and AA dresses. My friends get kick out of announcing I have bodysuits on, regularly and have even gone as far as to call me exercise Barbie. It is what it is. #cantstopwontstop
In disclosing my purchase to my girlfriend Kathleen, she promptly laid on the guilt, exclaiming in shock, “AA is on Groupon! How did you not know?” Honestly though, HOW DID I NOT KNOW?!
Now you know – it is still going on! I got my $50 for $25 and you should get yours too!
Here ya go and you’re welcome! http://bit.ly/AAdiscountdiary
